THERE'S plenty to play for the opening round of Sheffield Shield matches continue on Thursday.

SHEF - Blacktown International Sportspark

30 October 2013 - Day 2, Session 1

Tasmania 1st Innings

E. Cowan 7 18 0 0 38.89
A. Doolan 7 12 1 0 58.33

George Bailey's heroics in India may have him sitting at the front of the queue for an Ashes call-up, but the likes of Usman Khawaja, Shaun Marsh and Ed Cowan are all likely to be at the crease today and will be hoping to push their Test prospects forward.

SHEF - Melbourne Cricket Ground

30 October 2013 - Day 2, Session 1

Western Australia 1st Innings

M. North 25 52 4 0 48.08
J. Rogers 15 30 2 0 50

Undoubtedly the biggest story from day one was the return from injury of Michael Clarke, with the Aussie skipper proving his back problems are, pardon the pun, behind him after stroking a crisp 88.

SHEF - Gliderol Stadium

30 October 2013 - Day 2, Session 1

South Australia 1st Innings

T. Cooper 170 235 19 6 72.34
T. Ludeman 0 2 0 0 0

Late wickets will see New South Wales resume at 8-280 on day two of its match against Tasmania in Blacktown.

It was a similar case for Victoria against Western Australia, with the Bushrangers middle order looking in top nick before a late collapse saw them dismissed for 312 at the MCG.

Cameron White top-scored for the home side with 83, continuing his good form from the Ryobi Cup.

The Warriors will resume day two at 0-18, with Marsh due to come in at No.4

And over in South Australia, the Redbacks had no such batting problems as an impressive hundred from Tom Cooper saw them go to stumps at 4-294.

Cooper will resume on Thursday morning not out on 165, with skipper Johan Botha on 59.
