Club-by-club guide to 2014 fixture

Lance Franklin's first clash against Hawthorn and Dale Thomas' first appearance against Collingwood headline the release of the 2014 AFL draw.

HOW did your club fare in the 2014 fixture? We break down the good and the bad news.

ADELAIDE
GOOD Favourable draw.  Port Adelaide is the only top-six side the Crows play twice.
GOOD Take on GWS and St Kilda twice.
BAD Will be the away team in the first 'Showdown' against Port Adelaide at new Adelaide Oval.

BRISBANE
GOOD Features in Anzac Day game against St Kilda in New Zealand.
BAD Plays only one side, Gold Coast, from the bottom six twice.
BAD Only three games for the season on free-to-air television.

CARLTON
GOOD Avoids horror draw, playing only two of a possible three games against top-six sides.
GOOD Plays first 10 games in Melbourne.
GOOD Will host Collingwood in Round 7 in first clash between Dale Thomas and his old side.

COLLINGWOOD
BAD Tackle three preliminary finalists in the first three rounds in a difficult start to 2014.
GOOD Soft second-last match of the season against GWS to freshen players before final-round clash against Hawthorn.
BAD Will have to wait until Round 22 to take on former backman Heath Shaw at GWS.

ESSENDON
GOOD Huge prime-time broadcast exposure playing 13 night games.
BAD Play each of the bottom three sides only once each. 
GOOD Not a nightmare draw in wake of last year's stoush with AFL over supplement mess.

FREMANTLE
BAD Tough draw. Three double-ups against top-six sides but no repeat matches against Gold Coast or GWS. 
BAD Will travel to Brisbane for the second-last match of the season on a Sunday.
GOOD Hosts North Melbourne in Perth in Friday night for traditional Anzac Day Len Hall match.

GEELONG
GOOD Will again be night-time TV darlings, playing 13 games under lights.
GOOD Kicks off the season against Adelaide at home in the first Thursday night match at Simonds Stadium.
BAD Tough draw. Only side not to play any bottom-six teams twice.

GOLD COAST
GOOD Away game against Western Bulldogs in Cairns.
GOOD Only two double-up games from the top-12 against Hawthorn and Brisbane.
BAD Misses out on a second match against GWS.

GWS
BAD Tough draw. Only plays two of a possible three games against bottom-six sides.
GOOD Hosts local derby against Sydney in Round 1 to kick-start the season.
GOOD Will draw big television interest for home game against Heath Shaw's former side Collingwood in Round 22.

HAWTHORN
GOOD 11 matches at the MCG, including three of the last four of the season.
BAD Play each of the other three preliminary finalists twice.
BAD Come off a six-day break before away clash against Lance Franklin in Round 8.

MELBOURNE
GOOD Soft opening to the season playing St Kilda, GWS and Gold Coast in first five rounds.
GOOD Port Adelaide is Dees' only double-up opponent from the top-six.
BAD No Friday night games.

NORTH MELBOURNE
GOOD First three games at home venue Etihad Stadium.
GOOD Geelong is only double-up opponent from top-six
GOOD Consecutive Sunday night games in Rounds 11 and 12 and five Friday night fixtures

PORT ADELAIDE
GOOD Hosts Adelaide in first 'Showdown' at Adelaide Oval in R2
BAD Faces a maximum three top-six sides twice. But no double up games against Gold Coast or GWS.
BAD Only one Friday night game.

RICHMOND
BAD nervous first encounter against bogey side Gold Coast at Metricon Stadium in R1.
GOOD Play GWS and St Kilda twice.
GOOD Hosts Carlton in R2 blockbuster at MCG. 

ST KILDA
BAD Tackles GWS only once.
GOOD Plays nine of their first 11 matches at Etihad Stadium.
GOOD Carlton is the only double-up opponent from top-six.

SYDNEY SWANS
GOOD Plays only two top-six sides twice, instead of a possible three.
GOOD Two local derbies against GWS.
GOOD Hosts Buddy Franklin in Round 8 in first clash against his old side Hawthorn.

WEST COAST
GOOD Plays three bottom-six sides twice.
GOOD Only one double-up game against a top-six side - local rival Fremantle.
BAD Travels to Gold Coast in R23.

WESTERN BULLDOGS
GOOD Only side to not play any team from the top six twice.
BAD No Friday night games.
GOOD Plays Gold Coast, GWS and Melbourne twice each.
