Australia's worst Ashes fears could be realised with Shane Watson forced from the field during last night's seventh-and-final one-day international against India in Bangalore.

Watson appeared to injure a hamstring while running into bowl the first delivery of his sixth over. He left the field immediately.

Watson has endured one of his busiest ever seasons. Since the end of the last Australian summer, Watson has played eight Tests, three first class games, 14 one-day internationals, three Twenty20 internationals, 16 Indian Premier League games and six more contests for the Rajasthan Royals in the T20 Champions League.

Watson's hamstrings have sidelined him for extended periods in the past and selectors will be anxiously awaiting his scan results.

Should he be unavailable for the Ashes opener at the Gabba in 19 days time, selectors will be faced with the difficult decision of replacing him with a specialist top order batsmen or an all-rounder.
