Toomua not giving up on No.10

There has been a lot of changes with the Wallabies in the last 48 hours. To discuss it all Jim Tucker from the Courier-Mail joins us.

MATT Toomua says he will not discard ambitions of being the Wallabies' five-eighth despite coach Ewen McKenzie now preferring him at inside centre.

After impressing in his first match in the No.12 jersey against the All Blacks a fortnight ago, Toomua has retained the spot for the showdown with England even though the man he replaced because of injury, Christian Leali'ifano, is fully fit.

McKenzie revealed that he sees a big future for Toomua at inside centre, having used him in his natural five-eighth position for the first two Tests of the Rugby Championship only to recall Quade Cooper.

It appears that Toomua's best chance of remaining in the starting side for the rest of the tour is in the No.12 jersey, but he said: "I don't all of a sudden go and put all my eggs in one basket and add two to my number.

"There's so many attributes that cross over to be fair, the way we're trying to play as a ball player, it's not a Nathan Grey hard line-hitting, it's a balance of both.

"The transition between the two is quite easy actually.

29 years on since their last Grand Slam triumph, the Wallabies are hoping history repeats itself when they take on England tonight. One man who might know a thing or two about how it's done is the captain from that tour, Andrew Slack.

"You just take it in your stride, your goal is to play. If he says 12 brilliant, if he says 10, brilliant."

Toomua is a close friend of Leali'ifano but there have been no tears shed over keeping him out of the starting side, with Leali'ifano now on the bench.

"I want to play, whether it be at 10 or 12, I've got an opportunity to play at 12 so I want to keep that spot, irrelevant of any personal ties," Toomua said.

"It's a goal of mine to stay in the team for the tour, I don't think it's a personal vendetta against Christian, it's more that I'd like to stay in the team.

"He shook my hand and said 'Well done' and we've continued to help each other."
