A BRILLIANT frontrunning ride from Kerrin McEvoy gave Peter Snowden and Darley the perfect start to Derby Day when Paximadia held off favourite Hucklebuck to win the Carbine Club Stakes.
McEvoy dictated the race from the outset while Dom Tourneur had a much more difficult time with Hucklebuck, who was inclined to over-race before finishing on strongly for second, with Equator in third place.
Paximadia could now head to the Sandown Guineas in a fortnight while Hucklebuck will head to the spelling paddock before taking on an ambitious autumn campaign.
"Good to see the horse bounce back today because I was bitterly disappointed with (his effort at) Caulfield," Peter Snowden said. "He is just a better horse when he can dictate and he did that today nicely.
"Kerrin was able to tell them that he wanted to lead and then he backed off and gave his horse a rest. And he gave a kick again."
Snowden has not yet made a decision on whether Paximadia will head to the Guineas, saying: "The natural progression is the Sandown Guineas, but I have to talk to the team about it first because there are a few irons in the fire later on."
